Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 23 August 2007

Questions

• MY family and I totally agree with the suggestion put forward by Jackie Pots (Village mix, no thanks, August 16) that the CNJ should get involved in finding out what the residents of Camden really want out of their £25.3 million investment in the refurbishment of the Kentish Town swimming baths.
Camden cannot be trusted to conduct an independent survey. They always seem to have something up their sleeves and to have the answers before they are provided by the respondents.
In the instance of the baths, they seemed to have twisted the answers to fit the response they wanted.
I would urge the CNJ to have have a simple questionnaire asking their readers clear-cut questions.
• Mixed showers? Yes or no.
Mixed changing room? Yes or no.
• Open plan showering and changing area where both sexes are allowed? Yes or no.
• Do you want gym facilities with expensive equipment? Yes or no.
• Would you be prepared to pay a membership fee to access all the gym and swimming facilities? Yes or no.
• Would you be prepared to pay such a membership fee even if you only want to use swimming facilities? Yes or no, etc.
The CNJ could then publish the findings. I would trust such findings far more than any provided by Fiona Dean, assistant director of culture for Camden (Changing room will offer sport centre a flexible mix, August 9.)
Perhaps then, and only then, would those responsible for the refurbishment at Grafton Road finally get the message.
