Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published:16 August 2007

Evidence of activity down south

• IN your article regarding the council’s application for a 4am licence at the Camden Centre, Councillor Abdul Hai is quoted as saying that “people don’t complain in the south of the borough – people in the north are much more proactive” (Party plans upset neighbours, August 9).
I am not sure where Cllr Hai got this impression.
The volunteers of Covent Garden Community Association, which is at the southern tip of the borough, have made representations on more than 26 different applications to Camden for licence variations and extensions and attended many of the hearings.
The Bloomsbury Association and Fitzrovia Neighbourhood Association have also done similar work.
This has been because of the concerns of residents at the impact
of these applications on the area.
We sympathise with the residents of the area around the Camden Centre and hope that the panel hearing the application decides to refuse it.
The Camden Centre already has a licence to 2am, and that should be sufficient.
