Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published:9 August 2007

Trial no 393

• FURTHER to your article (Mayor Ken steps into bus dispute, July 26) we would like to emphasise how important it is to use the two-month “trial period” for the 393 that the mayor has given us to gather evidence of the unsuitability of Leighton Road as a bus route.
Thanks to our local councillors and tenant activist, Silla Carron, from Castle Road we managed to take the issue of the route the bus takes to the very top. We must seize the last chance that the mayor has given us to show that the bus needs rerouting via Agar Grove where it will serve Maiden Lane estate residents who are crying out for it. That route will also avoid the 393 having to use Castle Road where locals are equally up in arms about the danger of a bus route down their road.
Our MP Frank Dobson and our London Assembly representative Brian Coleman have also played their part in helping us. Now we need local people to gear themselves into action again. The mayor’s two-month trial period runs to the end of September when we go back to him to try and persuade him to reroute the bus.
Currently we have a bus every six minutes. We need residents to write to the mayor pointing out the bad effects of the bus (c/o GLA, City Hall, The Queen’s Walk, London, London SE1 2AA) and also to contribute to an “incident file” of problems that have occurred with the bus, which we are starting.
Let us know what happened, where and when and supply a photograph if you can, along with your name and address.
We have also considered making a video of the problems on the route, so if you have a camera or skills in that area we’d like to hear from you on 020 7485 1179. We know it’s asking a lot for people to keep on fighting, but this time we have a real chance of success.
