Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published:28 June 2007

Smoking is simply part of our daily routine

•  I  WONDER what historians will make of July 1, 2007.
As a smoker for 60 years, I have been reliably informed that giving up will seriously damage my health.
A total ban in departments of psychiatry will cost the NHS more in the end.
As with carrying around a favourite book, the ritual of lighting a cigarette to go with my cup of tea brings comfort, especially in an unfamiliar or stressful environment such as a hospital.
It has little to do with nicotine.
I also wonder what would have happened to the country if Churchill had been parted from his cigars?
