35 min win for Chris

Harrier shines in 10km win

CHRIS Beecham ran Highgate Harriers to victory on Sunday as a record breaking 400 runners completed the 14th annual Hampstead 10km race.
The 37-year-old, who had not raced since March, sped ahead to win well in 34:35, the only man to finish the London Heathside organised race in under 35 minutes.
Harrier’s winning team scorers included Chris Bailey (2nd veteran); Alistair Lindsay, Andrew Aitken and Damien Shirley.
Heathside’s women won their event through Caroline White (Vet 45 winner), Rosaire Gray and Paula Waldron.
Harrier Jo Carritt was third woman home in 40:50, while Heathside’s first man home was Mat Bigley in fifth, backed by Gavin Evans and Ken Heney.
There were fine performances from both clubs in the South of England Senior and Junior Track and Field Championships at Crystal Palace.
Heathside junior Moses Arthur sneaked in under 11 seconds in his 100m heat before narrowly missing out on a final spot after running home fifth in 11.21 in the semi.
Urban Bettang finished 19th in the senior 5000 in 16:41.19, while Harrier Pat Davis regained his form with victory in the senior 800m.
Davis won his heat in 1:55 and went on to win the final in 1:54:39. His club colleague Saningo Martyn was sixth of 11 in the under-20 2000m steeple chase final in 6:38:43.
Amin Ahmandnia was sixth in his heat of the U-20 100m in 11.81; Greg Smith missed out on the final of the senior 400m final by one place with 50:49 in the heats.
And Attak Ding was fourth in his U-20 800m heat in two minutes flat.
Elsewhere, Harrier Pete Downie won the Bristol Towpath 10km on Sunday in 33:32 taking 32 seconds off his best time for the distance on the road.
Harrier Ben Noad came second in the City Of Norwich Half-Marathon in Norfolk in 70:45, close behind winner Simon Tonyui of Kenya who recorded 70:26.
