Camden New Journal - Sport - Cricket round-up

MIDDLESEX CCC

MIDDLESEX’S Jamie Dalrymple was perhaps the one bright spark in the gloom of England’s opening one-day defeats by Sri Lanka, writes Paul Cowling.
Following on from a near match-winning 67 at Lord’s at the weekend, the spinner rattled up 37 at the Oval on Tuesday.
County colleague Ed Joyce is still sidelined with the ankle injury picked up in the Twenty20 match with Sri Lanka last week.
There was further bad news for Middlesex, as they were skittled out for just 49 in the Liverpool Victoria County Championship defeat by Notts at Trent Bridge.
Only Nick Compton (11) reached double figures, following on from his first innings total of 69. Middlesex bounced back on Sunday to record another Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy 50-over win, this time away to Somerset to move to second in the South Conference table.

Hamps storm to win without losing wicket

MIDDLESEX COUNTY CRICKET LEAGUE
PREMIER DIVISION
Uxbridge 112 ao Hampstead 116-0

AN unbeatable partnership between Jonathon Lee and Imran Mohammed saw Hampstead storm to a resounding 10 wicket victory against Uxbridge on Saturday.

Having won the toss, hosts Hampstead elected to put Uxbridge into bat first and quickly set about dismantling their opponents, who are currently bottom of the table.
In the end, Hampstead were set a target of just 113 runs for victory after the visitors could only manage 112 off 58.4 overs. Hampstead’s opening partnership of Lee and Mohammed made light work of their target as they knocked up unbeaten scores of 56 and 51 respectively, securing a comprehensive win with 116 off just 24.2 overs.

DIVISION TWO
Hornsey 229-8 dec Hampstead 230-5

SOUTH Hampstead made home advantage count on Saturday as they edged to a high scoring victory over bottom placed Hornsey.

The visitors took what looked a commanding lead when they declared on 229-8 off 53 overs. But the hosts dug deep as they powered to a winning score of 230-5 from 46.4 overs, with Asad Shah hitting a vital 51 along the way.

DIVISION THREE
Hornsey 229-8 dec Hampstead 230-5

A DISAPPOINTING batting performance saw Highgate fall to a 27 run defeat at Wycombe on Saturday.
Dave Benton lost the toss and Wycombe decided to bat first. Chris Garcia and Tony Duckett picked up early wickets in the opening overs and the hosts reached 55 for 5 after 20 overs.
But a gritty middle order partnership saw Wycombe force the pace with a flurry of wickets for 128.
Highgate’s reply got off to a flying start, although after four overs the total stood at 39 for 2 with the openers gone.
Wycombe brought on their spinners but Highgate’s batters fell quickly. Ankit Bhargava was caught down the leg side for 35 and Simon Battersby was undone lbw.
With 55 to win Highgate still fancied their chances, but Benton fell lbw for 22, swiftly followed by Adam Long and Garcia.
Last man Duckett eventually succumbed as Highgate were all out for 101 in the 27th over.

SUNDAY FRIENDLY LEAGUE
Vagabonds CC 114-7 dec  Washington 128-9

WASH’S seven match winning streak came to an end on Sunday.
The last wicket pairing Justin Gurney (above, 32 not out) and Terry Tidey (4 not out) played out the final seven overs to earn a draw as Washington fell 17 short.
At 80 for four with 14 overs leftWash had looked capable of making the runs. David Gluckman (16) and Shawn Hill (16) were in control but excellent bowling from the home side sparked a Wash collapse.
The Camden side lost five wickets for 18 runs and had to hold onto the draw with the final partnership remaining unbroken on 30.

JUNIOR CRICKET AREA CUP SEMI-FINAL

AN absorbing match saw North Middlesex’s under-11s take six Finchley wickets for just 18 runs in 3.5 overs to make the final.
North won the toss and chose to bat. Openers Connor Nurse and Charlie Yorke-Starkey took 25 runs off the first five overs. Zulfiqar Bipul had two important partnerships of 29 with Charlie Hierons (3) and 31 with Kyle Pittman (9) to move North on to 100 after 20 overs.
Opening bowlers Arjun Gole (2/9) and Kyle Pittman (1/10) restricted the Finchley openers to 17 in their first six overs.
Finchley’s Oscar Emanuel (34) moved Finchley to 93/6 before being dismissed by Joe Bridgeland (3/17).
