Camden New Journal - by SUNITA RAPPAI

Village puts on a happy face

BLAZING sunshine brought record numbers of visitors to the Highgate Festival on Saturday – making this year’s event the best ever, according to organisers.

And the New Journal sponsored-stage, featuring acts ranging from Bolivian musicians to Highgate School ballet dancers, was one of the highlights of the afternoon’s festivities.

Organiser Katie Plews said: “It was one of the busiest festivals we have had for years. It was just non-stop. All the stallholders seemed very happy and the charity stalls made money, which is great.

“The face-painters were particularly busy – there were a lot of children with face-paint walking around all afternoon.”

Other attractions at the festival in Pond Square included a circus workshop, a puppeteer and fire service and police stands. Food was provided by Raj Kara Rajani, of Village Food and Wine.

Ms Plews said: “The idea behind it was to build community relationships and to emphasise the village atmosphere in Highgate which we have all come to love. It’s a great way to ease any tension.”
