We need more City Academies. Alan Johnson has done a great job to expand the City Academy programme, but we need more.

Jon Cruddas
Labour’s programme of investment in schools has raised levels of achievement and increased resources. I believe that now the issues surrounding the expansion of academies and trust schools need to be addressed – we need to re-emphasise the importance of community based schools and move away from
the current obsession with structures and competition- it is standards that matter.

Peter Hain
In Northern Ireland, I was responsible for the education system. I scrapped the Eleven Plus, and I introduced specialist schools, but did not allow them to select pupils by aptitude as happens in England.

Harriet Harman
We have made considerable progress on education since 1997 borne out by rising levels of achievement.  I am committed to the provision of high quality schools in every neighbourhood available to all.

Alan Johnson
We have done much to improve schools since we came to power.  We need to continue to invest more money in our schools, to close the gap between spending in the state and private sectors.  We also should continue with our schools policies- to give every child access to good resources and good quality teaching.

Hllary Benn
