Footy Fever!

Medals galore as 40 teams battle it out in schools grand finals

SCORES of talented young soccer stars were gripped by footy fever as the Camden Schools Sports Association held the grand finals of their Primary Schools League Cup.
In the biggest turnout in the event’s history, 40 teams from 20 borough schools battled it out for the honours in twin competitions held at Parliament Hill Fields and Coram’s Fields.
Youngsters from Primrose Hill Primary School were among the winners. They were crowned champions in the Year 5 and Year 6 girls’ league after a dramatic penalty shoot-out against Gospel Oak.
In the boys’ final, unbeaten New End fired their way to glory as they scored an incredible 23 goals and conceded just one.
In a closely fought final, the Hampstead school edged past Kentish Town’s Rhyl Primary School 1-0 to lift the trophy.
There was double delight for New End when the schools younger boys’ team beat Torriano Primary School to win the Year 3 and Year 4 league title in a game held near the Lido in Parliament Hill Fields.
Having missed out on penalties in one final, the younger Gospel Oak girls’ team made sure there wasn’t double disappointment for the school when they beat Torriano to capture their league title.
Meanwhile, in the Plate Trophy, girls from Netley Primary School in Euston and boys from Holy Trinity Primary School in Chalk Farm were also celebrating after winning their respective competitions.
St Pancras also received a top honour when they were presented with the Fair Play Award for the tournament.
