Critic’s sewer jibe deemed sub-Standard

A FASHION writer has caused a storm by ridiculing plans to twin Camden Town with Hollywood.
Laura Craik let loose in a column in the Evening Standard on Monday, describing Camden Town as a “sewer” and a neighbourhood “that only those with a pressing desire to score crack would surely walk through with impunity in the wee small hours”.
She attached her assessment of the area to a dismissive reaction to plans to create a Hollywood-style Walk of Fame in Camden, which would see tribute slabs hammered into the pavement in honour of musicians that have played gigs there.
Significantly, the project has the support of Leron Gubler, president of the trust that runs Hollywood Boulevard’s ‘star’ tribute. He wants Camden Town to be officially twinned with Tinseltown.
Ms Craik, the Standard’s fashion editor who lives in the borough, said: “Camden Lock is more of a walk of shame than walk of fame.”
Music venues in the area which had hoped the project would sprinkle some stardust on Camden Town have cried foul.
