Parents rubbish parking research

PARENTS will argue on Tuesday night that the council’s own research shows that they have got it wrong over phasing out of school parking permits in Hampstead.
The school-run row will continue when councillors meet to discuss the results of the latest consultation exercise.
Camden is withdrawing the number of parking dispensations it hands out to parents who drive their children to private schools around Fitzjohn’s Avenue. It hopes to reduce congestion which builds up in the area every morning and has led to complaints from residents.
Vicky Fobel, from Schools Travel Action Group, will tell members that survey responses actually show that people living in the area want the permits to stay. She said that previous responses had been skewed because the council had taken into account the clustered views of residents’ associations rather than residents themselves
“The results also demonstrate that residents associations are not voicing the views of residents’ as a whole on this issue as their responses diverge completely from those of individual resident respondents,” added Ms Fobel. “In the past, Camden has given far too much weight to the views of residents’ associations and ignored the silent majority who want to see a more realistic policy that is effective at tackling congestion.”
