Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published:7 June 2007

Bus 393 drives ahead

• TRANSPORT for London has investigated concerns raised by residents of the Leighton Road area that the road is unsuitable for buses (Charles Dance joins bus protest, May 24).  Extensive route tests have confirmed that the road is suitable for the single-decker bus that will now serve an extended 393 bus route, including Leighton Road.

The extension to route 393 will bring more people within easy reach of the bus network. It will make it easier for passengers to travel between Chalk Farm and Holloway as well as allow them to interchange with rail and Underground stations.
It will also provide an additional bus service to Nag’s Head shopping centre, and will improve access to services for several communities along the route that have been under-served by bus connections in the past.
Alternative routes that were suggested during the consultation fail to secure the improved links between rail, Tube stations and shopping centres which are delivered by this route while bringing the bus network closer to the people who rely on it.
London’s bus network is constantly under review and we will continue to monitor route 393 to ensure we’re providing the best possible bus service to those who live in, work in or visit the capital.
