Sisters on trial over burglary death

A GRIEVING widower will be called to give evidence at the Old Bailey trial of two Kentish Town sisters accused over the death of his wife during a burglary.
The victim, pensioner Anne Mendel, was found stabbed to death by her husband at her Golders Green home.
Sir Allan Green, QC, is due to open the prosecution case before a jury on Monday.
An 18-year-old – who cannot be named at this stage – has denied murdering 85-year-old Mrs Mendel on March 14 last year.
With her 16-year-old sister, she denies plotting to pervert justice.
Their trial is expected to last for three weeks.
Mother-of-two Mrs Mendel was attacked at her home in Elmcroft Crescent while her husband was out shopping.
The charity worker was lying dead when the 80-year-old returned. The inseparable couple, married for 54 years, were pillars of the community and regular worshippers at a synagogue near their home.
