Six in court for gang stabbing

SIX suspects – including three youths – are due to appear in court today (Thursday) charged with the murder of teenager Mahir Osman.
Detectives swooped on several home addresses yesterday (Wednesday), rounding up four teenagers aged between 16 and 19.
Two men in their 20s were also arrested and hauled in for questioning. No names have yet been released but police have confirmed that all six are facing charges. They are due to appear at Horseferry Road Magistrates Court.
Mahir, 18, was stabbed in Camden High Street in January amid chaotic scenes in Camden Town.
The suspects now at the centre of the police investigation are understood to be among 24 boys and men arrested on the night of the murder.
Officers initially commandeered a double decker bus to ferry them to police stations. The remaining 18 suspects not involved in the latest round-up are currently on bail and must still report to detectives later this month.
The murder was one of three knife deaths in Camden in the first six weeks of the year. Shortly after Mahir’s death former Home Secretary Charles Clarke visited the area, appealing for calm. Mahir’s family confronted him and demanded a new strategy to make the streets safe.
