Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 31 May 2007

China whispers

• IN answer to Barry Fox’s letter (Refuse to tell the truth?, May 24), there is no secret about the way Camden Council recycles.
Once picked up from the kerbside, the recyclable items are sorted at a state-of-the-art facility in Greenwich (not China, as Mr Fox worries!), which is operated by Veolia Environmental Services Ltd.
The items are sorted mechanically by a range of systems and only by hand (on site in Greenwich) at the final quality check, to make sure the materials are not contaminated.
These facilities fully comply with UK legislation. Full details of the process are available in an information leaflet from the council’s street environment services team on 020 7974 6914 or via the council’s website: www. camden.gov.uk.
Anyone can come and see first-hand how the recycling processes at Greenwich work, through a council-organised visit.
Please contact David Wilson on 020 7974 3941 for more information. I can assure you, you won’t need your passport.

Executive Member for Environment
