Emily Johns
Artist in Iran talks

AN artist from Kentish Town on a peace trip to Iran had a two-hour meeting with the country’s vice-president on Thursday.
Emily Johns, 41, of Islip Street, was the only British representative on a 23-strong, American-led peace delegation to Iran who met Vice-President Dr Esfandiar Rahim Mashari. She is a member of peace group Justice Not Vengeance.
Ms Johns, who returned to Britain on Saturday, said: “Dr Mashari said Iran did not want nuclear weapons but wanted the right to have nuclear power.”
She added: “My impression is that he was quite sincere. He broke off an important trip to see us. I think something had shifted in the ministry’s attitude to us.”
