Joe Mendy
Student on fake charge set for extradition d-day

JOE Mendy, the Camden Town student who was charged with possessing 200 counterfeit euros in Spain four years ago, will hear today (Thursday) if he is to be extradited.
Joe, 22, had planned to go to university in September, but his shock arrest last month could scupper those dreams for good should he be extradited or jailed.
If judges at Horseferry Magistrates’ Court in Westminster decide to send him to Spain he will enlist the help of King’s Cross solicitors Bindman & Partners, who are specialists in extradition cases.
Joe’s mother Kay said: “I’m apprehensive but if he is extradited he’s still got his chance to appeal.”
Holborn and St Pancras MP Frank Dobson wrote to the Spanish ambassador after hearing about Joe’s plight.
He said: “If everything is as Joe Mendy says, then it does seem extraordinary.
“I did take up the case with the Spanish ambassador but he said he could not do anything because he can not interfere in judicial matters. I am now taking it up with the British government to make sure everything is done fairly.”
