Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 17 May 2007

Right way to report mental health

• THERE has been some truly dreadful media coverage of mental health issues, but it is improving.

Mental Health Media exists to try to generate better coverage of mental health, and so a greater understanding of the issues among the public.
Last year I took part in the Mental Health Media awards and was genuinely impressed by some of the media output that won.
This year I am supporting their efforts to attract even more entries.
The Mental Health Media Awards 2007 are now looking for nominations from your readers of good, accurate coverage of mental health issues in the media over the last year.
Readers may have seen something in this newspaper, or spotted something on the radio or on television.
The awards also cover radio and TV drama and documentaries – EastEnders won an award last year for its excellent storyline about bi-polar disorder.
Nominations close on May 31 and we’re keen to have as many as possible.
For more information, or to nominate something you’ve seen, read or heard, go to www.mhmawards.net.
