Harriers' flying start

NEWLY promoted Highgate Harriers made an impressive start in the First Division of the Young Athletes League on Saturday when they got their season off and running in Hastings.
In the boys’ under-13s category, new recruits Michael Gallagher and Joe Bloom were in outstanding form as they finished second and first respectively in their long jump events. Gallagher also did well to finish second in the high jump and third in his 100m race.
In the girls’ under-13s category Alex Eastman sealed a hat trick of second spot finishes as she took silver place in the 150m, the long jump and the high jump.
Meanwhile one of the top performances of the day came in the girls’ under-17s division, where Zahra Akinpeju achieved two new personal bests with two Grade Two performances in the discus and the shot putt.
Other big winners on the day were Hakeem Aderibigbe, William Laing, Anthony Norris, Hannah Ashman, Hannah Rose, Andrea Kennedy and Eucalypta Bradley.
