Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 3 May 2007

Whittington action is long overdue

IN respect of your article on the failing repair project at the Whittington Estate, Highgate Newtown (Estate revamp “sacking” chaos, April 26), I’d like to say that I am glad to see the council take some action at last to have control of this project. However, my view is that this action is long overdue. I have been pushing officers and Cllr Naylor, the Exec Member for Housing, to take the matter in hand since Summer 2006.
I continue to be appalled by the chaos surrounding this contract and the manner in which residents have had to live for the last year and a half, and at the moment no early end is in sight.
Myself and Cllr Oliver have met with officers and stressed that we would like to see the works taken in hand and progressed in an organised manner, in consultation with residents, and without further delay.
Once the works are dealt with Camden should consider what lessons can be learnt to ensure that residents in the future do not have to put up with such poorly managed works.
