Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 3 May 2007

Shop talk

• IN replying to my letter (A Tesco would be good, March 29),  K Y McKay is not focused on the reason – need – why a modern store selling at fair prices would benefit so many people rather than poky little shops selling items at up to 30p above normal prices (Small Shops Are Great For our Area, April 19).

Not everyone can afford inflated prices, and the elderly and incapacitated don’t want to struggle up the hills in all weathers to the supermarkets on Finchley Road to obtain better value (at almost 80, with impaired walking I am in that category).
For one who writes so vehemently, K Y McKay, who appears loath to reveal his/her address, is  totally unobservant of mine. Not only is my address within 100 yards or so of Belsize roundabout like the writer’s, but I’ve lived there for 18 years.
As for the diatribe about the kind of family business, the unlimited credit, the long opening hours (“even on New Year’s Day”),  so what and who really cares? All this is irrelevant. As I’ve stated, need is the keyword, and so many in this area share my sentiments!
