Gunners on fire for Euro final

IT was 102 not out for Arsenal at Boreham Wood FC on Sunday when they took this season’s tally of league goals beyond a century.
The Gunners’ mean defence has been breached just six times this term as the north London side romp towards their fourth league title in as many years.
Despite their domestic dominance, Arsenal will be underdogs this Saturday when they make history and become the first English side to reach the finals of the Women’s Uefa Cup.
Thousands of fans are expected to cheer Swedish champions Umea on in the away leg of the prestigious final, which will feature World Player of the Year Marta for the home side. But Arsenal go into the tie buoyed by an emphatic victory over Donny that saw them maintain their unbeaten league run thanks to four goals from Julie Fleeting, and strikes from Karen Carney, Lianne Sanderson and Jayne Ludlow.
Looking ahead to the away leg, which will be broadcast live on Eurosport, Arsenal manager Vic Akers said: “They are a very strong and experienced side and we know it’s going to be very tough. We’ll have to really battle and make sure that the other team know they have been in a massive game.”
Akers, who is in his 20th year in charge of the Ladies, will be allowed to miss his duties as Arsenal’s kit man in the north London derby against Spurs on Saturday.
But while Arsenal should have Akers and club captain Faye White, who returned from injury on Sunday for the first time this season, in Sweden, they will not be able to play their star striker, Kelly Smith, who is suspended.
The Gunners take second aim at the trophy when they host what could be a make or break second leg at Boreham Wood FC at midday on April 29.
Tickets are still on sale at www.arsenal.com with prices at £10 for adults and £5 for under-16s and OAPs.
