Camden New Journal - by RICHARD OSLEY
Published: 19 April 2007

‘Snoop’ website taken down

A CONTROVERSIAL council website exposed by the New Journal for putting pictures of every home in the borough on the internet was yesterday (Wednesday) finally taken off-line.
Embarrassed officials said they were responding to concerns from residents as they removed the pictures.
The pictures will now only be used privately by council engineers and not be widely available.
The New Journal revealed in November how the ‘My Camden’ part of Camden’s website contained a picture of a nearly every doorstep in the borough – including the homes of celebrities and high-profile politicians.
The bizarre project cost the Town Hall £100,000 with every update demanding an extra fee.
Environment chief Councillor Mike Greene said: “We have had some recent complaints from residents following the publicity that the website received, but heard very little from people we thought it might help.
“So, having listened to residents’ concerns, we decided to remove the photographs.”
