Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 19 April 2007

Too busy to deal with us

• THREE weeks ago you kindly published my letter regarding the difficulties that residents in King’s Cross had in getting in touch with the council following what seemed to be an arson related fire in one of the estates in the area.
Following the fire at the estate I was dismayed that the housing repairs team took two-and-a-half weeks to complete some security repairs on the block that were damaged during the fire.
Given the very serious nature of this criminal act I would have hoped that the council would have thrown additional resources at this problem to ensure that the security measures on the estate were in full working order. Yet despite complaints from residents and myself as ward councillor, the housing repairs team dragged their feet considerably.
If members of the public were to try to email the councillor with responsibility for housing issues, Liberal Democrat Chris Naylor, at present they will get an automatic response saying that he is “out of office” and very busy dealing with policy issues.
It seems that he is too busy to provide the day to day leadership that we need on housing issues, such as emergency repairs, in Camden.
Cllr JONATHAN SIMPSON
(Lab)
King’s Cross Ward
