Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 12 April 2007

Barges run rail very close

• WRITING as a resident of Islington, where I can pick up an issue of the Camden New Journal at the junction of Brecknock Road, I noticed a letter from Conservative Councillor Andrew Marshall speaking at the closure of shops such as the Waterside Restaurant in January.
I was immediately thinking of the Regent’s Canal that connects Camden to Paddington and Little Venice, Islington Hackney and Tower Hamlets, for freight and passenger-carrying under new conditions now arising.
Does the councillor realise that the totally overlooked and neglected canal could soon be passing barges of 400 tonnes a time, quoting price-parity with rail and road modes of transport. How many of the Camden community know that?
