Highgate women shine

HIGHGATE Harriers women’s team were in impressive form on Saturday when they finished fourth in the Southern Road Relay Championships at Milton Keynes.
The outstanding Svenja Abel sealed the fourth fastest time overall as she completed her leg of the race in 18minutes, 15 seconds as Highgate put in a series of commanding performances over the six-stage relay.
Averaging 20 minutes for each stage of the race, the Highgate team recorded a finishing time of just over two hours.
The final running order was Esther Evans 19mins, 38secs, Astrid Wingler 20mins, 38secs, Kate Jenrick 20mins, 58secs, Louise Burnie 21mins, 48secs and Fiona Burnie in 21mins, 15secs.
Meanwhile the Harriers men’s team excelled in their Southern 12 stage relay despite the absence of top runners Ben Noad and Keith Cullen.
Competing over six long legs of 7826m and six short legs of 5356m, Peter Downie led Highgate home as he clocked a time of 17mins, 46secs.
