Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 29 March 2007

KX does need housing

• RE: Councillor Theo Blackwell’s letter (Homes should be the priority in King’s Cross, March 22).

He says that communities will be built upon King’s Cross. Yes, there are plans for affordable homes to be built on the King’s Cross land, however he neglects to mention that most of those new homes will only be one-bedroom properties and that the lack of two, three and four-bedroom properties will not create communities but will instead create a transient population, with single people and couples having to move away if they decide to have children.
The lack of larger properties can only have a detrimental effect on the growth of a safe community. At the developments decision vote in March last year he stood up and urged other councillors to vote in favour of the development, and then he abstained from voting, through fear of losing his seat in the May local elections of last year.
Labour was quite rightly ousted from power. This is because they did not listen to the people. He chose to abstain from the King’s Cross vote so why doesn’t he shut up?
The truth of the matter is that much of the plan is good, however, a few things needed to be ironed out before Labour (ex) party members voted in favour of the plan.
Yes we do need more affordable larger properties, and yes we ought to restore as many older historical buildings. But you won’t get anywhere by listening to Cllr Theo Blackwell.
