SPORTING youngsters brought a month of thrilling athletics action to a glorious end on Monday at William Ellis School.
Talented teams of 14 to 16-year-olds turned out in force at the secondary school in Highgate to take part in the Year 10 and Year 11 Sports Hall Athletics Tournament.
Organised by the Camden School Sports Federation and the Sports Development Team, athletes competed over six track and six field events, including relay races, the javelin, the standing long jump and the overhead throw. After a day of enthralling action, hosts William Ellis won the boys’ championship, while Haverstock School in Chalk Farm won the girls’ event.
The biggest winners of the month was Parliament Hill School in Highgate who clinched three of the four major girls’ trophies, winning the Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 competitions.
South Camden Community School in Mornington Crescent enjoyed double delight as they captured both the boys’ Year 7 and Year 9 titles, while Hampstead completed the honours list after winning the Year 8 trophy.
School Sports co-ordinator Jackie Charlton said afterwards: “It has been such an exciting month of competitions.
“The standard of athletics we have seen was the perfect reward for all the hard work everyone has put in to organising the tournament.
“With so much talent on display, I think we can all look forward to a sensational summer of sport.”
