Top award for gymnasts

YOUNGSTERS from Camden Gym Club were beaming with pride on Friday when their head instructor Karen Waldron received a prestigious award from the British Gymnastics Association, writes.
The Camden and Islington club, which is based at the Talacre Sports Centre in Kentish Town, became one of only 200 clubs in the country to be given the coveted Gym Mark Award.
The honour was presented to the club for their ongoing achievements within the sport, and for providing talented young gymnasts with a safe and affective environment to train in.
Since being established 21 years ago, Camden Gym Club has grown from a handful of students at the Swiss Cottage Sports Centre to a club boasting more than 1,300 members, who now train in a purpose-built gymnasium.
By an extra twist of fate, Jessica Capelli, a regional development officer for the English Gymnastics Association, turned up to present Karen with the award, almost 20 years after first joining one of her classes.
Karen couldn’t hide her excitement at receiving the award: “I’m so proud of how much the club have achieved. To be recognised for something that I love doing is such a privilege.
“The children are my inspiration, watching them have fun and enjoying a sport that has meant so much to me throughout my life is simply breathtaking.”
