Fight fans treated to promising start from hot prospects

PRESIDENT of Angel Amateur Boxing Club John Jacobs is promising fight fans an action-packed season following their first show of the year at the Boston Arms in Tufnell Park.
The boxing extravaganza featured some of the country’s top prospects, with fighters from Times, Islington Boxing Club, Haringey Boxing Club, Lion ABA and St Pancras all taking part in the action.
A special feature of the night also saw a team of former champions from the Ex-Boxers Association, based in Angel, turn out to show their support.
There was also a special certificate for president of the London north-west ABA Division Jack Danbury, who was made vice-president of Angel ABA alongside chairman of the English ABA Keith Walters.
Jacobs revealed: “We fully expect to follow on from the success we had last season and to hold another four or five shows this year.
“The talent in our opening show was fantastic, and we’re expecting more of the same throughout the season.
“Fans expect action packed shows, and we’ve always produced the goods.”

UNDERDOG Marlon Mellish punched his way to a stunning win on Friday against Ruislip’s John Needhan.

In the fight of the night, Mellish, who trains at the Times Boxing Club in Islington, sealed a unanimous victory as he won all three, two-minute rounds.

SUPER featherweight Ian Wilson will be looking to make it seven wins out of seven when he steps between the ropes at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham next Friday.

The Holborn fighter will need to be at his best as he takes on Sheffield’s John Baguley over six, three-minute rounds.
