Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 March 2007

Thanks to bus driver

• I HAVE had occasion recently to complain about London Buses drivers being unhelpful in their attitude to the travelling public.
For example, not lowering the platform for disabled people like my husband, now 83 years old, who lost his leg while fighting to take the monastery of Cassino in World War II, and myself, 5ft 2”, trying not to cause agony to my very arthritic knee, in the long drop to the kerb, in marked road bus stops, with no impediment to the drivers.
I had courteous replies to my letters regarding routes 24, 46, and C11.
I did ask for my letter to be pinned up at the garages concerned.
This may be a coincidence, but today we had a very different experience.
We boarded a C11 in Pond Street and arrived in Brent Cross at 10.50am.
An extremely unpleasant rainy day was not going to upset our driver. The platform was lowered where needed, passengers asked to leave by the front entrance, as the rear doors were very slow to open, and this was affecting his time schedule. The driver pulled spot-on into the kerb – oh, the relief to my knee.
Leaving the bus, I had to say to the driver “congratulations, a miserable day and a happy driver” so, if my letter of complaint has gone up in the garages concerned, I hope this letter of appreciation goes up too.
Our thanks for a happy journey in the hands of driver of C11 registration No AJ02 ZRY.
