Andy fires rearguard supershow

Kentish Utd Elite 1, Elite Soccer 4

LEAGUE leaders Elite maintained their 100 per cent record in the Under-13As on Monday night to claim this week’s Camden New Journal and Islington Tribune Big Match trophy.
But they were made to work for it by a Kentish side who played the entire game with only six players.
Elite’s Stefan Denic had the first chance to make their dominance count but his close range effort was blocked by Kentish keeper Andrew May.
Jordan Lawrence hit the post before man-of-the-match May rescued his team, stopping efforts from Luke Heneghan and Stefan Karayiannis.
Instead it was Kentish who took the lead with their first attempt on goal.
Skipper Amen Abdul Razak drilled a free-kick beyond the reach of Reece Davis. And Jamie Puleston almost doubled their advantage but his shot was palmed away.
Elite responded but May smothered another Karayiannis effort and pushed Heneghan’s goal bound strike away for a corner, while Ashley McMahon cleared another shot off the line.
Elite finally found an equaliser when captain Tommy Street fired past May and they went into the break 2-1 up thanks to a magnificent strike by Denic that gave the keeper no chance. The second half saw Kentish defenders Jermal Wekpe, McMahon and Razak block almost everything Elite threw at them, with Harry Garratt alongside Puleston up front searching for a second goal. Their resistance was finally broken in the last five minutes though, when Alex Denic finished off a slick move for 3-1 and Street scored his second in the final minute.

Man of the Match
Andrew May

The Kentish United Elite goal- keeper preserved his team’s lead with a string of excellent saves in the first half and kept them in touch with fine blocks and parries in the second.
