Alan Higgins and John Ryder
Boxing night’s a top hit with fans

FIGHT fans turned out in force at the Boston Arms in Tufnell Park on Thursday as Angel Amateur Boxing Club staged their first show of the year.
Hard-hitting 17-year-old John Ryder led the charge for Angel as he took on Alan Higgins from St Pancras Boxing Club over three, two-minute rounds.
In a dogged contest, Ryder showed great strength as he punched his way to victory to seal his seventh win in eight bouts.
In the first show to be held by Angel ABC since John Jacobs became president, the boxing extravaganza featured some of the country’s top prospects, with fighters from Times, Islington Boxing Club, Lion Club and St Pancras all taking part in the action.
Among the fighters stepping between the ropes for Angel was Tommy Goodrham, 12, who just lost out on points in his schoolboy bout against Martin Stokes of Stowe ABC.
Alex McInnes, 15, made an impressive debut for the Islington based club despite missing out on the decision, while Charlie Greenaway showed great power and determination as he made a winning return to the ring.
One of the most impressive winners on the night was George Kean from Times Boxing Club.
The 15-year-old fighter, who lives in Highbury, stopped his opponent in the second round as he made it two wins from two.
At the end there was a special praise for Angel matchmakers Ray Bull and Robbie Brown, who helped put together the impressive showcase.
