Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 22 February 2007

What to do about racism?

• I WOULD be interested to know what others think about the following incident.
On the 24 bus on Friday afternoon I was forced to listen to the racist rantings of a passenger sitting quite close to me.

He was talking to a mixed-heritage woman sitting next to him.
His racism was directed against Jews, about whom he used all the horrible stereotypes about greed, money grabbing, trying to take over the world.
An older woman sitting in front of him eventually stood up and told him he was being thoroughly racist and she objected.
He shouted back at her  and she said: “You are racist scum.”
At this point the young mixed-heritage woman nodded vigorously. I think the older woman was right to protest – after all a bus is a public vehicle. I would like to know what policy the council has on things like this, for the future.
