LIFELONG Arsenal fan June Hitchcock met one of her heroes on Sunday when she was presented with a special award by tough-tackling defender Emmanuel Eboue.
June, who lives in Aberdeen Park, Highbury, paid her first-ever visit to the Emirates Stadium as she stepped out at pitch side to collect the Arsenal Volunteer of the Year Award 2006.
Having supported the Gunners for more than 50 years, the energetic 68-year-old was given the special accolade for her ongoing work with the Arsenal Learning Centre, a joint project between Arsenal Football Club and Islington Council that offers free courses in computers, English and office skills.
June couldn’t hide her excitement as Ivory Coast defender Eboue presented her with her trophy ahead of Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Wigan.
She said: “It really means a lot to know I’m appreciated for the work I’ve done for the club.”

FORMER Arsenal star Robert Pires has agreed a deal which will see him return to Highbury after snapping up an apartment at the Gunners’ historic old home.
The French midfielder showed he has lost none of his opportunistic flair as he moved quickly to buy a home at the residential re-developed stadium, where he has lasting memories of two league championships and two FA Cups.
Pires, who made 284 appearances for the Gunners during his six-year spell with the club and scored an impressive 84 goals, has bought an apartment in the East Stand of the old stadium,
The Arsenal legend, who is now playing for Spanish side Villarreal, said: “I was so attached to the club and everything that it brought me that I bought a flat at Highbury. Buying a flat in Highbury is a symbol of my affection for the Club.
“To have a flat on the ground where I once played, which holds so many fond memories for me is something very special.”
