Knife fine for shop
A SHOPKEEPER has cleared his shelves of all knives after council officers caught staff selling to an under-age teen for a second time.
Highbury Corner Magistrates fined Sanjay Julka’s company Home Connections International in Camden High Street, £3,500 and imposed £795 costs at a hearing on Thursday.
Prosecuting for Camden Council, Paul Beckham told the court a 13-year-old volunteer was sent into the shop on a test purchasing exercise in June last year.
He said the company was fined £1,000 in August 2004 for a similar offence the year before.
Although Mr Julka was unable to attend court, being at a family wedding in India, his lawyer said: “He does take this matter seriously. Although not detracting from the offence, the knife was a Stanley knife in a flat package. It’s a tool used for work purposes.
He’s withdrawn the sale of knives from his shops.” |
