Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 8 February 2007

Targets flawed for Home Start

• YOUR leader (If it ain’t broke why try to fix it? Feb 1) saying that the Lib-Tory pact is picking on the weak also applies to funding Home Start – the charity supporting young families. And why?
Well, Home Start Camden is too successful. At a scrutiny meeting this week with politicians and officers it was stated that there is no dispute over the quality of the work. It is agreed that Home Start is working with the appropriate families. The problem is the targets! Home Start has exceeded its targets by about 100 per cent. This excess indicates that the assessment by the council to establish the targets is flawed.
It is an inescapable fact that the targets bear little relationship to the actual need or to capacity to carry out the work.
