Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 8 February 2007

Rationing the NHS is wrong

I WAS pleased that you have taken up the issue of ‘NHS rationing’.
This is indeed what the new Camden Clinical Assessment Service seems to be about.
The officially stated aim is “to ensure that patients receive the best possible response to their care needs” but, after having been referred to a consultant by their GP may be seen by a consultant, another professional (most likely a practice nurse), or be sent back to their GP.
This bureaucratises the health care sector even further and, to an extent, undermines the GP’s authority.
