Big Frank tells Blair now is the time to go

HOLBORN and St Pancras MP Frank Dobson has told Prime Minister Tony Blair that he no longer appears in control of the government and should step down immediately.
He warned there would be no fairy-tale ending over the war in Iraq, describing the end product as “murderous chaos”.

Mr Dobson piled the pressure on Mr Blair with a stirring speech in a debate on Iraq in the House of Commons last Wednesday and followed that up with a scathing attack on Mr Blair during an interview with GMTV on Friday morning. He said: “Quite a few people are now thinking that things are getting into such a mess that it would be better if Tony Blair went now.
“One of the biggest problems John Major’s government faced in the end was that it looked as though it was not really in charge of things and there is an air arising in the Government at the moment that people are not quite in charge of their departments.”
Mr Dobson left his mark on the debate on Iraq with a gloomy analysis of what had gone wrong, accusing the government of ignoring the stark warnings that intervention would be a disaster.
He told MPs: “Sometimes debates on foreign affairs get involved in so much detail that we lose sight of the fact that the paramount object of British foreign policy should be the safety and security of Britain and British people, whether they are at home or abroad. Against that criterion, the invasion and occupation of Iraq has been a failure. As a result of the invasion and occupation, Britain is less safe and British people are less secure.”
