Keep buses out of our street, plead protesters
PROTESTERS are fighting plans to route buses along their Kentish Town street.
Transport for London (TfL) proposes to extend the 393 bus route from the Nag’s Head in Holloway along Camden Road, Torriano Avenue and then Leighton Road, before cutting through Kentish Town to Morrisons car park in Chalk Farm Road.Leighton Road Neighbourhood Association chairman Sue Prickett has collected 194 signatures for a petition opposing the plans. Residents fear more than 100 buses a day could use Leighton Road when the route starts operating in July.
She said: “There has been a lack of consultation over this. For years we have been working with Camden to introduce traffic-calming measures. We have traffic islands, speed bumps, a ban on 7.5 ton lorries and two bicycle lanes going each way.
“TfL has the powers to introduce buses even if there is strong opposition. The best thing is to suggest viable alternative routes.”
A TfL spokesman said: “Once a final decision has been taken, TfL will advise everyone who took part in the consultation of the outcome and will address any concerns raised at that time.”
