Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 February 2007

Well done cops and council

ON Saturday last a small disaster was averted by the by the prompt action of local residents, Camdens Building Control Team and the Police.
Mr Paul Turley a local Architect noticed that a section of three metre high privately owned wall at Village Close, Belsize Lane was near to collapse and the Police were called to the site, the road was immediately closed.
Dr Panama who lives close to the site called Camdens Building control who responded within ten minutes with the arrival of David Edwards the area Building Control Officer who found the wall to be a dangerous structure and that the situation was further complicated by a tree which was leaning on the wall.
The council’s Tree Officers were contacted and it was agreed that the tree be removed, the contractors arrived took down the tree a section of wall and fenced off the footway which resolved the immediate problem within a matter of hours.
Technical Officer Nick Lennox will continue to work with the owners and other council departments to remedy the longer-term solution and reinstate the wall to its former structure.
A well-coordinated response all-round
