Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 February 2007

Tories do not run Camden

I WAS most bemused by Cllr Chris Philp’s letter in last weeks Camden New Journal (Freeze the council tax please Mayor Ken). He says: “I am proud to be supporting the Conservative Executive Members who run Camden (sic!) in freezing our element of the council tax.”
Forgive me if I seem to be missing something. However, I thought that in fact the Conservatives came in third place in last May’s elections, and far from them running Camden, they are the junior members of a coalition led by the election-winning Liberal Democrats, who indeed campaigned hard to freeze Camden’s council tax. I wonder, did I dream the fact that the Leader of the Council and the Mayor are both Liberal Democrats?
Perhaps Cllr Philp is a keen follower of George Orwell, who in his all too realistic ‘1984’ portraying the danger of all ideology, simply redrew the boundaries of truth to define the opposition out of existence.
