Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 February 2007

Budget is mean and thoughtless

• I WRITE to protest against the Tory/Lib Dems council leadership and their decision to introduce a mean and thoughtless budget this year, and, to encourage your readers to attend a meeting to highlight how damaging this is. These budget cuts really are punitive and affect those most in need within our local community. For example, increasing the cost of community meals by 20 per cent may mean our local pensioners will be harder pressed to afford a decent hot meal.

Also, there will £3m cuts to children’s services including play scheme closures across Camden.
Unison and the local community are organising a meeting at Friends House, Euston Road on Thursday, February 8 at 7pm. I’d encourage your readers to attend and to find out first hand why the Tory/Lib Dem led Camden Council is behaving in such a way and what it means for us all.
NICK SMITH
Chair, Regents Park branch Labour Party
