Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published:25 January 2007

Freeze the council tax please mayor Ken

MAYOR Ken Livingstone plans to increase his element of the council tax by 5.3 per cent next year.
This above-inflation increase will be wasted on more bureaucrats, expensive foreign trips adverts about nuclear power. I am proud to be supporting the Conservative Executive Members who run Camden in freezing our element of the council tax next year.
We have achieved that by cutting the bureaucracy which has developed for years under Labour. This sets an example that MAyor Ken should follow.
Conservative colleagues and I voted last Monday to urge Ken to freeze his element too. Labour and Green councillors voted against this motion, favouring instead more taxes and more waste. So if you want tax at a sensible level combined with effective, low-bureaucracy public services, you can be sure that Conservatives will deliver that.
