Glory for Heathside

RUNNERS from London Heathside battled the elements on Saturday as they continued their Metropolitan Cross-Country League campaign at a muddy Wormwood Scrubs.
Top veteran Jo King led the Heathside women’s team home as she completed the 2.7mile course in 16mins, 43secs to take third place.
Out of a field of 117 finishers, Vanessa Parry sealed a top 10 finish when she crossed the line in ninth spot, while Sarah Swan hit home in 18th place in her first competitive race for more than four months.
The points sealed a third place finish for Heathside on the day, leaving them in third place in the league table with one race to go. But glory still beckons for the club, with the Heathside veterans’ team set to retain their league title.
Despite enjoying their best turnout of the cross-country season far, the Heathside men’s team failed to get a single runner in the top 30.
Martin Potter completed the 5.4mile course quickest for Heathside, coming 32nd out of a field of 287 finishers.
The men’s veteran team were in exceptional form for Heathside as they claimed an impressive victory on the day, leaving them in second place overall in the league.
