Gunners’ Youth Cup joy

FA Youth Cup

Fourth Round
Hull 1
Arsenal 2

THE young Guns of Arsenal booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup last night (Wednesday) with a hard fought 2-1 victory against nine-man Hull City.
Jay Simpson fired the under-18s side ahead from the penalty spot after Hull defender Frank Belt was dismissed for a deliberate handball in the area.
Steve Bould’s unbeaten side doubled their lead on the half-hour mark when Mark Randall fired home from the edge of the area after good work from Portuguese striker Rui Fonte. Nicky Featherstone gave Hull a glimmer of hope when he pulled a goal back for the home side shorlty after the break.
Any chance Hull City had of forcing an equaliser were dashed on 63 minutes when captain Matthew Plummer was sent off after kicking out at Arsenal’s keeper Wojciech Szczesny.
