Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published:18 January 2007

Wrong to select pupils

COUNCILLOR Chris Philp’s comments that schools should select their pupils displays a disregard for any principles of fairness.
Like most central London boroughs, Camden has a high proportion of children from disadvantaged backgrounds who would be likely to lose out in any admissions system heavily based on discretion.
The Campaign for State Education believes that all children are entitled to fair treatment in the admissions process. It is very welcome therefore that the new Admissions Code will be strengthened and that the law will be clearer, even if we still have a long way to go to achieve a level playing field.
