Honour won’t compromise my dearly-held principles

• LET me re-assure Wendie Gray that the honour which I have been given for human rights will not compromise my integrity or principles (A shame for Sir Geoffrey, January 11).
Wendie may not be aware that the honours system (apart from peerages) has changed over the last two years.
Nominations are now vetted by independent committees, the names of whose members are published. Since March 2006 the Prime Minister has, for well-known reasons, played no part in the process.
