Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published:11 January 2007

No panto pimps!

I WENT with my family and a group of friends to see Cinderella at the Hackney Empire this weekend.
As I had anticipated it struck a perfect balance between being a local community event and yet having West End production values, between entertainment for innocent young children and for more world weary adults.
I was surprised when having recommended a friend to see it she replied “isn’t that the one with pimps and pushers in it?” until I read the summary of pantos on your theatre review pages.
It does indeed say “Pimps and pushers infect the popular children’s classic Cinderella”.
I have no idea where that idea came from as there were none represented on stage and none alluded to in any of the publicity. You owe the Hackney Empire an apology and any readers you may have deterred from taking their kids to see this extremely funny but clean show.
